The Topic is Hand Held Computers (PDA's)

Q. What type of PDA can be used with MST's Hand Held Software?

A. When considering different PDA’s we consider the following:

1. Operating System- To run the latest versions of our software, a PDA needs to have at least the latest version of Windows Mobile software.

2. Processing speed- Even earlier models operating at 206MHz moved very smoothly through our software.  Now 416 MHz is available as low as $299.00, it should be the slowest speed to settle for.  Models with over a 500MHz processor are available from Dell for around $399.00. We recommend using the Axim from Dell because it is affordable and feature rich.

3. Memory Card Slots- Having multiple memory card slots allows for use of items such as a barcode scanner and a memory card at the same time.  If you are going to use our barcode software you will need a unit with two card slots. (CF and SD memory card slots.) The barcode scanner will use the CF Card slot.

4. Backup/Restore-The PDA should be able to back up ALL of its files into one backup file.  If it cannot do so on it’s own, it needs to be able to Sync to a PC using Microsoft ActiveSync. ActiveSync has a backup and restore function.  This allows MST to give its customers one file that can be used to update (restore) a specific PDA.

5. Wireless Technology.- If you will be using our wireless software, you should look for a device with Integrated Wi-Fi Wireless.

*You should do your own product comparison as you would with purchasing a PC.  However, you can contact MST before you make your final purchase to make sure that the Pocket PC that you are considering meets the basic requirements listed above.
